I walked past this little place, located near the split of Zacateros and Ancho de San Antonio, on my way to class for almost a month before trying it. It’s too bad I waited that long! Burrimania is basically a Mission Street style burrito joint. Think Chipotle or Qdoba in the US. What sets Burrimania apart is that the ingredients and salsas are authentically Mexican. They’re very fresh, and very delicious. There’s also more options: three kinds of beans, three kinds of rice, five or six meat fillings, a couple veg options, six salsas, several selections of raw veggies, guacamole, cheese, and sour cream to name most of the menu.
My go to burrito at Burrimania is a harina (flour) tortilla, frijoles enteros (whole pinto beans), pollo al la parrilla (grilled chicken) or barbacoa de res (beef barbacoa), pico de gallo salsa and their amazingly delicious verde picante (spicy green, and it’s SPICY), some cheese, and a sprinkling of cilantro.
There’s a generous amount of seating and the restaurant is spotless. There’s usually some funky music playing in the background as well but my recommendation is to get your meal to go and walk a few blocks northeast to Parque Juarez (go right at the first street north of Burrimania, then left when it dead ends) and enjoy your burrito on a shaded park bench near some artwork or a fountain.
